How to pair a Garmin Edge 1030 with a power meter

Step 1. Power on the Garmin Edge 1030

Step 2. Create an Activity Profile for Kayak/Canoe/SUP (Optional)

This step is useful for people who also use their Garmin Edge 1030 for cycling and other activities. Setting up an Activity profile for Kayak/Canoe/SUP will mean that you can have device setting tailored for each activity and it's quick and easy to switch between the profiles. The standard profiles are ROAD, INDOOR and MOUNTAIN. Follow the steps below to setup a profile called Kayak/Canoe/SUP

  • Enter the settings menu (the three horizontal lines at the bottom left of the home-screen).

  • Select 'Activity Profiles'.

  • Select 'Create New' (bottom of the screen).

  • Select 'copy existing'.

  • Select 'ROAD'.

  • Use the touch-keyboard to name the new profile eg: 'KAYAK' or 'SUP'.

  • Select any of the options as the Default Ride Type. If you choose 'gravel' for example, uploaded activity data captured with the Kayak/Canoe/SUP profile will be titled in Garmin connect as a 'Gravel Ride'.

  • Customise the profile settings by following the on-screen directions, then Select 'Apply Profile' (top of screen).

Now the new Activity Profile is set up. Swiping across the home-screen will allow you to switch between the Profiles.

Step 3. Add the Power Meter as a 'Sensor'

  • Enter the settings menu (the three horizontal lines at the bottom left of the home-screen).

  • Select 'Sensors'.

  • Select 'Add sensor' .

  • Wake up the Power Meter by shaking (the LED's will begin to flash).

  • Select 'Power'.

  • The unit will perform a search and then locate your Power Meter. When found, a number will be displayed. Check that this is the same as the serial number displayed on the shaft (Right shaft for a Kayak Power Meter). The serial number is the number shown after the # on the shaft label.

  • Select the check-box on the right of the screen and then select "Add".

The Power Meter is now paired with the Garmin Edge 1030. Power values will be displayed via Power data fields and Cadence values shown via Cadence data fields.
