# Configure your kayak power meter settings

All of the settings need to be set **before** using your kayak power meter for the first time. Additionally, one or more of the settings may require **updating** whenever you:

* change the location of your hands along the shaft
* change your blade twist angle
* change your overall paddle length
* attach a new set of blades
