The stiffness of each shaft type we offer (SOFT, STIFF & EXTRA STIFF) can be expressed in terms of the amount of deflection that occurs when a 10kg load is applied at the centre of a 1m span. This is the method that some blade manufacturers use (e.g. Braca), so it is possible to cross-reference and select the appropriate stiffness for the blade type to be fitted.
Shaft Type | Description | Deflection when shaft is at minimum extension (+0cm) | Deflection when shaft is at maximum extension (+5cm) |
EXTRA STIFF | 100% carbon high modulus, minimum flex. Suitable for only the strongest 200m sprinters. | 2.3 - 2.5 mm | 2.8 - 3.0 mm |
STIFF | 100% carbon, low flex. Suitable for flat water sprint. | 2.5 - 2.7 mm | 3.0 - 3.2 mm |
SOFT | 100% carbon, moderate flex. Suitable for marathon, surf ski and multi-sport paddling. | 3.0 - 3.2 mm | 3.5 - 3.7 mm |
